I took this picture of Mary walking the labyrinth just outside the hospital on Saturday, October 10th. We'd just found out that her numbers had dropped again and were a bit discouraged. Because of her low numbers, she had to wear this duck mask outside her room - I wore one as well. We were in between antibiotic IVs, so were able to take a walk without having to take anything hooked up to her.
I am a big fan of labyrinths (especially after reading Daniel Pink's discussion about them in his chapter on Meaning). Here we are at the Grace Cathedral Labyrinth last year:

These distraction-less healing walks are wonderful in getting grounded. We had a lot of fun doing them together - on one of them I remember us plotting how we were going to bust out of the hospital and go find a cabin in Western Montana to live out our existence. I think the labyrinth helped Mary build her energy and focus for when she finally told them, "I am leaving the hospital and I'm going to go heal." Which she did - thankfully.
